Hummingbird Copy (Made in Japan by Hayashi)
NOW SOLD
1970's (rare)
This is a beautiful, early 70-71 "Pearl" branded hummingbird copy with the lawsuit open book headstock. Serial number 600784 made by "Hayashi Gakki" in Japan. Yes, that is "Pearl" as in the drum company. For those that don't follow the MIJ history, in the early 70's Pearl and Tama were making some high quality copies of 1960's era Gibson & Martin guitars for the Japanese market only. Pearl guitars ran the span of 3 years, before they decided to focus all their efforts on the percussive side of the business and that makes Pearl acoustic guitars a little rare given their short selling period. Hayashi Gakki, was simply one of the best and credited with Japanese made Vox, Guyatone, FujiGen Gakki, Kanda Shokai (Greco), Hoshino Gakki (Ibanez), Nippon Gakki (Yamaha), Aria and Norlin (parent company of Gibson)This Hummingbird is a very well made reproduction and considerably less than a real vintage Gibson. It appears to be solid woods and is feather light weight. The projection, bass response and sustain on it is great and further makes me think its solid wood. It has a bone nut and saddle and what's great is that the saddle is also fully adjustable.
